PLC Service Plans

Dear Members and Guests of Parkland Lutheran Church,

On Monday, March 16th, President Trump, under the advisement of public health officials, recommended that all gatherings be limited to 10 people. Desiring to honor the recommendation for the benefit of our members and neighbors, we have decided to temporarily forego our normal public Divine Service. At the same time, it is important, especially now, that God’s people receive His comfort and peace in Word and Sacrament. Below is the basic plan to date for how we are working to serve you.

The Service of the Word

Every Sunday at 10:30 AM, the Service of the Word will be live-streamed on our website, as well as on Facebook. This will be a “private” service for the purpose of holding the live stream (meaning that only the pastors and their families will be in attendance). We will use Rite 2 (pp. 60-71, 85-87) in the front of your hymnary. If you do not own a hymnary for your home or would like to have additional copies for your family, please email or call the church office (253) 537-5492 to order ($15 new; free for not-so-gently used). Each week’s service folder will also be available to download under the Livestream screen.

The Lord’s Supper

As noted in other communications, the Lord’s Supper is, by Christ’s institution, a communal gift. Therefore we must be present where it is in order to receive it. We advise everyone, especially those who are at higher risk for serious complications from the virus, to use your best judgment and take reasonable precautions when considering whether to come to church or not. In such situations, as we are in now, you are not neglecting the Lord’s Supper if you are not able to receive the Lord’s Supper.

Regular Hours for Semi-Private Communion (Sunday AM and Monday PM)

So that you have the opportunity to receive both of these on a regular basis, Pastors Obenberger and Gullixson will make themselves available for private Communion. The pastors will have set times for members to come and receive a devotion and Holy Communion on Sunday mornings from 8 to 10 AM) and Monday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 PM). In order to respect the social distancing guidelines during these times, family units and individuals will be asked to keep their distances from each other (family units sitting together, but sitting apart from others) while at church. We will limit the number of people for each “mini-service” to 9 people. If you come during this time and others are receiving, please wait patiently and silently at a distance from others.

By Appointment

Each week, the pastors will hold office hours for those wishing to receive the Lord’s Supper.

  • To make an appointment with Pr. Obenberger, you may call his phone number or email
  • You are able to make an appointment with Pr. Gullixson by booking here.

As always, in case of an emergency, please use other known personal phone numbers for the pastors.
