October 15, 2018

Chapel Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 16.

There will be NO SCHOOL Wednesday, October 17, thru Friday, October 19, due to the PNW Pastor/Teacher Conference in Grand Mound, WA. School will resume on Monday, October 22. Have a safe and fun mini vacation!

The PLC Woman’s Club would like to thank the PLS Volleyball players, parents, coaches, and fans. Their help in setting up last week’s funeral reception after the volleyball game is very much appreciated!

The Booster’s Mixed Bag Designs Fundraiser was a success! Over $2,000 was raised to support our school! Did you know Parkland Lutheran School can continue to raise money by shopping online all season long? Just click here to shop & support PLS! Please make sure our ID# 295521 and seller name are entered at the top right corner. Happy shopping!

Wednesday, October 24, is Picture Day. Order forms were sent home last week. Order forms and payment are due on picture day. Checks should be made payable to Lifetouch. The photographers do not carry any money, so please send the correct amount if sending cash. If you prefer to order online, the instructions are listed on the form. Additional order forms are located outside of the school office.

Picture Day is also Chapel Day. Your child may bring a change of clothing to have their picture taken, however they will be asked to change back into their chapel attire for the remainder of the day. Pictures will be in our yearbook; please follow our policy of modest attire found in the PLS handbook.

Wednesday, October 24, is our next Pizza Hot Lunch. Order forms were sent home last week and must be returned to the school office today, Monday, October 15. Please make checks payable to PLS Boosters. Extra order forms are available outside of the school office.

The Boosters will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, October 27, from 6:30pm to 8pm. The Boosters are in need of families to decorate their car trunks and pass out treats. There will be a prize for the best decorated car, as well as a costume contest, cake walk, and other fun activities. The Boosters are also in need of donations in the form of baked goods and treats (nut-free, please), as well as game operators. Time spent baking treats, passing out treats, and/or helping out with games will count towards your volunteer hours! If you are able to help with this event, sign-up sheets are located outside of the school office.

Everyone is invited to our Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 2, at 2:00pm in the PLS Ark. We are planning a special bulletin board to honor veterans. Please submit photocopied pictures (which will not be returned) of family members who have served or who are serving in the military along with a caption card that includes their name, branch of service, dates served, and/or participation in which wars. If needed, we can make copies of photos in the school office. Please bring pictures and caption cards to the church or school office, or scan and send them to, by Wednesday, October 24. (Previously submitted photos will be reused – no need to resubmit.)

Evergreen Lutheran High School’s National Honor Society and Student Council would like to invite you to their Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 9. Power-Hour is a strong academic program for children ages 2 thru 5, centered on a Bible-based curriculum. Our goal is for every child to know how special they are to their Savior, Jesus. Along with this truth, children will be given the opportunity to learn in a structured classroom environment with their caregiver readily available to help them discover learning concepts and experience new social settings inside a classroom. Through songs, crafts, and academic activities, watch your child grow in the knowledge of their Savior as well as in academics! Classes meet Tuesdays from 1:45pm to 2:45pm, in the Pre-K classroom at Parkland Lutheran School, November 6 thru 20 and January 8 thru 29 (not meeting for the month of December). Cost is $25.00 per child, ages 2 thru 5. There will be a $5 discount for additional children in the same household. Younger siblings may attend at no cost. Click on the following link to register: POWER-HOUR REGISTRATION

Power for Parenting is an extension of Power-Hour at no additional cost. Childcare is provided for registered students during this optional 30 minute Bible study, to encourage caregivers in their vocation and the spiritual life of their home. Study is held immediately following Power-Hour.

All parents who are not members of Parkland Lutheran Church are expected to attend the “Introduction to Lutheranism” class, preferably the first year they have students at PLS. In this class you will hear what your children will be taught in their religious instruction and you will have an opportunity to discuss and ask questions. If you cannot make it to the class, please let the office know, perhaps a later offering of this class can be arranged. Pastor Gullixson will teach this class from 6:30pm to 7:30 pm on the evenings of Tuesday, November 6 & 13. We will meet in the conference room in the Church. Enter through the breezeway door and go immediately up the stairs.

Beginning Tuesday, November 20, we will be offering a class called Christianity 101 which goes into more detail regarding the teachings of the Christian faith. It is a fifteen week course from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Some take this class to become members of Parkland Lutheran Church, others take it as a refresher course and still others take the class to learn more what Parkland Lutheran Church & School teaches. If interested in this class please contact the church office 253-537-5492, so that the proper of amount of material might be prepared.
