THE PLS WEEKLY COMMUNICATOR IS YOUR PRIMARY SOURCE OF INFORMATION

CALL TO MINNESOTA
Last week, Mr. Sorn announced that he received a call to serve at our school in Mankato, MN. This means as the school in Minnesota looked at their needs, they thought Mr. Sorn would be the best one to help them in the mission of their school and so have asked him to serve there. While he loves Parkland and Washington, he must decide where his gifts are best used. You are welcome to give input to Mr. Sorn while he considers this call.

WHAT IS A CALL?
When a pastor or teacher receives a call, they must decide between the call they have in the congregation or school where they are currently serving and the call they have just received. They will look at the needs of both congregations and schools and consider the particular gifts God has given them for serving in the ministry. They will prayerfully consider where, with their particular gifts, they can best serve the kingdom of God. They will also seek the advice of their brothers in the ministry, the people they serve, and the people who are calling them to serve.

TELSS ACADEMIC BOWL RESULTS
All students in grades 5 thru 8 did a great job at the TELSS Academic Bowl last Friday. Congratulations to the following students:

  • 7th & 8th Grade Team Geography: 3rd Place Overall
  • Michaela N.: 2nd Place in the Science Fair
  • Brayden M.: 2nd Place in the Science Fair
  • Allison P.: 2nd Place in the Science Fair

MAP TESTING
Our second round of MAP testing for grades 2 thru 8 will begin this week, April 16 thru 20. This is the standardized testing that tells us how our students are doing compared to other students in the United States. The best way to prepare for these tests is to simply be well-rested, be to school on time, and to have eaten a good breakfast.

BOOSTER MEETING
Our next Booster meeting is Thursday, April 19, at 6:30pm. Meetings are held in Mr. Sorn’s classroom across from the school office. Everyone is invited to attend and your time does count toward your 30 volunteer hours.

APRIL PIZZA DAY
Wednesday, April 25, is our next Pizza Hot Lunch. Order forms were sent home last week and need to be returned by this Thursday, April 19. You may write one check if you have more than one student ordering, however, we ask that you complete a form for each student. Extra order forms are available outside of the school office.

GRADES PRE-K THRU 4 SING IN CHURCH
Students in grades Pre-K thru 4 will sing at the 10:30am church service on Sunday, April 22. Students should report to Mrs. Enstad’s classroom by 10:15am.

NO UNIFORM DAY
“No Uniform Day” is Friday, April 27. The cost is $10 per student (checks payable to PLS Boosters). If your child would like to participate, please see Mrs. Straling in the school office by the end of this week.

WEARING SHORTS
Nice weather is upon us and with that comes the wearing of shorts. Please note: As of Monday, April 30, students may wear their navy blue or khaki shorts (no cut-offs, jeans, or cargo shorts) with their solid colored polo as part of their uniform. Shorts should not be shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Students may not wear shorts on chapel days.

TELSS OLYMPIC INFORMATION AND PASSES
The TELSS Olympics will be held Friday, May 4, at Cowan Stadium on JBLM. Students in grades 1 thru 8 are NOT to come to school that day, but are to go directly to Cowan Stadium. Students are to be at the stadium by 9:45am. There is NO SCHOOL for students in Pre-K and Kindergarten. All students in grades 1 thru 8 are expected to participate. This is a school day, and attendance will be taken.

**There will be NO EXTENDED CARE in the morning or evening**

If you requested a pass to get onto JBLM, you can stop by the school to pick it up today. We would prefer not to send the pass home with your child. If this is inconvenient for you, please contact the school office to make other arrangements.

All passengers 16 and older must have a pass or must go through the Visitors Center.

If you are planning to go to the Olympics but did not request a pass, an enhanced driver’s license or passport will be required and you should allow an extra 30 to 40 minutes to process through the JBLM Visitor Center. Remember students should be at the field by 9:45am.
