THE PLS WEEKLY COMMUNICATOR IS YOUR PRIMARY SOURCE OF INFORMATION

VOLUNTEER HOURS
We are trying to make every effort to be sure that everyone gets the proper credit for ALL volunteer hours. If you help out in any way for a teacher, at the school, on a field trip, or at an event, please remember to complete a golden rod form found in the bin outside the school office. Also, please remember to have the person who you are doing the work for sign off on your form before turning into the school office. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office at 253-537-1901.

A printed version of recorded hours is displayed next to the volunteer board across from the school office.

EVERGREEN LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL’S “JUNIOR EAGLE NIGHT”
Wednesday, January 17, is Parkland Lutheran’s “Eagles Night” at Evergreen Lutheran High School. ELHS has invited our students to watch their varsity basketball games at 6:00pm & 7:30pm and participate in halftime games. Wear your Parkland gear for free admission for all ages. (Students, remember to get your ELHS Passport stamped.) Support our school and Evergreen Lutheran High School by attending!

NEXT BOOSTER MEETING
Our next Booster meeting is on Thursday, January 18, at 6:30pm. Meetings are held in Mr. Sorn’s classroom across from the school office. Everyone is invited to attend and your time does count toward your 30 volunteer hours.

FREE POPCORN FRIDAYS
Our next Popcorn Friday is Friday, January 19. Popcorn will be available to anyone who wants it during 3rd recess. Thank you Boosters and the Wallers for providing a healthy snack!

GRADES PRE-K THRU 4 SING IN CHURCH
Students in grades Pre-K thru 4 will sing at the 10:30am church service on Sunday, January 21. Students should report to Mrs. Enstad’s classroom by 10:15am.

CHAPEL DAY CHANGE NEXT WEEK
Chapel Day will be on Tuesday, January 23, next week.

WINTERFEST
The PLS Boosters would like to invite everyone to attend Winterfest 2018 on Friday, January 26, from 5:00pm to 8:30pm, in the Ark. Cost is $10 at the door (cash or check payable to PLS Boosters). Have fun with bouncy houses, obstacle courses, and a giant slide! Canteen food will consist of the Boosters’ famous taco salads, hot dogs, snacks, and special beverages. Friends are welcome to attend!

PARENTS: Please note that this is NOT A DROP OFF EVENT. Because of so much activity going on during Winterfest, we ask that if you cannot be there with your child, you designate an adult that your child can report to throughout the evening. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Interested in volunteering for this event? A volunteer sign-up sheet is located outside of the school office.

END OF SECOND QUARTER
Friday, January 26, is the end of the 2nd quarter of school. Report cards will be sent home the first full week of February.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES BY REQUEST
If you would like to schedule a parent/teacher conference before or after school on Monday, February 5, or Tuesday, February 6, please contact your child’s teacher.

SAVE THE DATE!
The Boosters will be hosting a 50’s style Sock Hop on Friday, February 23. Look for more info to come in future Communicators!

TELSS OLYMPICS
All students in grades 1 thru 8 are expected to participate in the TELSS Olympics on Friday, May 4. This is an annual track & field event day. It is each parent’s responsibility to not only provide transportation, but also supervision during the day. If you are not able to attend, please let your child’s teacher know who will be responsible for your child at the event.

The time has come to complete the forms to request access onto JBLM for the TELSS Olympics. You must register every person who is over the age of 16 that will be in your car. The names must match exactly with the information you put on the form, including middle names. These forms will be sent home today and are due back by Friday, February 23. If you will have more than 3 in your car over the age of 16, there are extra forms available in the school office. You will also need to show proof of current registration and insurance upon entering JBLM, as well as a valid driver’s license (does not need to be enhanced – JBLM has given us a waiver this year). Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

SCHOOL CLOSURES FOR SEVERE WEATHER – READ CAREFULLY
In case of severe weather, parents will be notified of any school closing via KOMO radio, as well as on TV channel KOMO 4 and KIRO 7. Information will also be posted on the school website and our Face Book page, as well as sent via the Remind program. PLS follows the Bethel School District for weather related SCHOOL CLOSURES ONLY. We DO NOT start school late. When it is snowy or icy, our first concern is for the safety of our students and parents. If a parent feels conditions are too hazardous, they may keep their children home, or bring them to school later in the day when the conditions improve. Please contact the school office if you are keeping your child home.

COLD & FLU SEASON
Cold and flu season is upon us. If your child is ill and will not be attending school, please contact the school office. Students should not return to school until all symptoms are gone. They should be fever free for a FULL 24 hours, before returning to school. Thank you in advance, for your help in preventing the spread of illness at PLS.
